For the first half of 2018, tourism numbers were strong
The Visit Florida research department recently released the statistics on the state’s tourism industry for the first half of 2018 – and the numbers are good.
According to the report, tourism was up 5.9 percent in the first six months of 2018 over the same period the year before.
A deeper dive into those numbers shows a 6.8 percent increase on domestic travelers in the first half of 2018, as well as a 2 percent increase in Canadian travelers. Overseas travelers, however, dropped by 1.4 percent.
The leisure and hospitality industry accounted for 1.26 million jobs in the state in July, up 50,400 from a year ago, according to numbers posted by the Department of Economic Opportunity.
Florida boosted its marketing directed at Canadians from $1 million to $1.8 million last year, after Visit Florida acknowledged the state had taken the nation’s northern neighbor for granted.
