Run 863 about to take the streets

AUBURNDALE — You’ll be forgiven if you think Run 863 is the name of a new hip hop group.

Instead, it is a new series of four races – two existing annual events: the Carillon Classic 5K on March 10 and the Tiger Trot 5K on March 31; one returning race: the returning Brick Dash presented by Publix on April 14; and a new contest: the Safari Wilderness Run on Feb. 17. Those that participate in three out of the four races will earn a unique medal.

This will be the inaugural Safari Wilderness Run, a 5K-ish run through grass, gravel and sand along a route that, at times, will parallel the grazing animals at Safari Wilderness Ranch. Given the nature of the course, exact measuring of the course isn’t possible.

The Brick Dash presented by Publix returns after a year hiatus. The popular event will take runners and walkers through LEGOLAND Florida Resort, including the famed Cypress Gardens area. The Brick Dash 5K presented by Publix benefits Merlin’s Magic Wand, a worldwide charity that helps ill, disabled and disadvantaged children and their families enjoy a day at one of the more than 120 Merlin Entertainment attractions around the world.

The Carillon Classic 5K, along with the Tiger Trot 5K, are both long standing annual events beloved by runners from Orlando to Tampa and beyond. The Carillon Classic is held at Bok Tower Gardens in Lake Wales and is both a unique look at Florida’s natural habitats while also home to the famed 205-foot art deco Singing Carillon tower. The Tiger Trot 5K will weave along beautiful Lake Parker Park and end on the warning track near third base of Publix Field at Joker Marchant Stadium, the Spring Training home of the Detroit Tigers and regular season home of the Lakeland Flying Tigers.

The design of the medal has yet to be released.
