More than 20 colleges from throughout the south will converge on Holloway Park this weekend for the NCAA Division II South Regional Cross Country Championship, hosted by Florida Southern College and Polk County Tourism and Sports Marketing.
The men’s 10K race will start at 7:30 a.m. The women’s 6K race will start at 8:45 a.m.
Competing will be runners from Florida Southern, Nova Southeastern, Lynn, Florida Tech, West Florida, Embry-Riddle, University of Tampa, Palm Beach Atlantic, Valdosta State, Alabama-Huntsville, Montavello, Lee University and more.
Auburndale native and Embry-Riddle senior Calahan Warren will be running in the men’s division, but will face stiff competition from junior Jay Day of Alabama-Huntsville, sophomore Evan Del Rio from Mississippi College, junior Harold LaCroix from Alabama-Huntsville, freshman Alan Anderson from Alabama-Huntsville.
The top teams to watch for in the men’s division are Alabama-Huntsville and Lee University based in Cleveland, Tenn.
In the women’s division, Lee and Union University, located in Jackson, Tenn., are the top teams.
The event is open to the public.
