It’s official: Auburndale, Winter Haven event makes Guinness list

Super Bowls aren’t always super, and the World Series rarely includes a team from outside the United States.

But when it comes to the water ski event known as the Chain of Records, the title wasn’t lying.

Guinness World Records of North America announced Monday that five separate world records were broken at the event based in not only Winter Haven but also in Auburndale.

The five records – as well as the construction of USA Water Ski and Wake Sports Foundation’s headquarters along Lake Myrtle – continue to reinforce Polk County’s image as an international water sports destination. According to a report from the Outdoor Industry Association, outdoor recreation enjoyed at least $887 billion in direct consumer spending last year, with water sports enjoying roughly $139 billion in sales and trip related expenditures.
