Court wizards and hoop heroes only need apply

Think you’ve got a little basketball wizardry left in your game?

Then the Lakeland Magic want to see you Saturday in Auburndale. The Orlando Magic’s NBA G League affiliate will have open tryouts Saturday, Sept. 22 from 10 a.m to 2 p.m. at the Auburndale Community Center, 405 Bennett St. If you can’t make that, you can venture out to the Orlando Sports Center in Orlando, 6700 KingsPointe Parkway, from 9 a.m. to noon the next day.

Attendees will get a chance to showcase their skills in front of Lakeland Magic coaches and staff.

Availability is on a first-come, first-served basis, and registration, release forms and a $175 non-refundable free are required. Pre-registration is open until Sept. 19 at lakelandmagic.com/opentryouts. Walkup registration is subject to availability and a $200 non-refundable fee. Payments may be made through credit card, cash, cashier’s checks or money orders at the tryouts. All participants must meet the NBA G League eligibility requirement.

Former local player tryout success stories include Kevin Foster, a Polk County native and 2017 local tryout participant who appeared in 23 games for the Lakeland Magic last season.
