A large number of boys and ghouls – as well as a few bees, a couple of Captain Americas and a smattering of sorcerers – descended on the Visitor Information Center for its Ghosts, Goblins and Goodies event on Oct. 24. Activities included a judged pumpkin carving contest, various vendors, buy-one-get-one-free ticket offers for LEGOLAND Florida Resort and Bok Tower Gardens, a portrait artist and, of course, all the trick-or-treating possible, all in order to help educate the community as to all the VIC and Polk County have to offer, thus creating local “brand ambassadors.”
Due to the ongoing pandemic, various safety measures, from masks and social distancing to hand sanitizer and constant cleaning, were implemented to ensure the safest possible environment.
“The coronavirus has caused these kids to miss out on so much this past year,” said Justin Laferriere, Senior Visitor Services Manager for Polk County Tourism and Sports Marketing. “From classes to sports to family gatherings – it sounds cliché, but we thought we might be able to inject a little normalcy in their lives.”
