Nancy Denton
Nancy Denton is considered to be one of the most successful and highly respected high school softball coaches in the state of Florida. When looking at her accomplishments it is easy to see why. Nancy has served as the head coach of the Lake Wales varsity softball team for the last 27 years, compiling a record of 437 wins and 247 losses. Under her coaching, the Highlander teams have won two State Championships (2007 and 2013), and her teams were runners up for the State Championship three times (1995, 1996 and 2009). Nancy’s teams have made it to the State High School Final Four on six occasions (1992, 1995, 1996, 2007, 2009 and 2013) and won the District Championship six times (2003, 2004, 2007, 2008, 2009 and 2010).
Nancy’s leadership extends off the softball diamond as well. She has served on the board of directors for the Lake Wales YMCA, was the first female board member of the Lake Wales Little League and is an officer for Lake Wales Girls’ Fastpitch, Inc. For all of her accomplishments Nancy was named the Lake Wales Citizen of the Year in 1990, The Ledger Softball Coach of the Year in 1992, 1995, 1996, 2007 and 2013 and was named the Class 4A All-State Coach of the Year in 2009.
