Throughout his lifetime Jim Lee made many significant contributions to the business and sports communities in Polk County. In his 41 years in the financial services industry he served the community in many ways including being on the board of directors for several community and professional organizations such as the Lakeland Family YMCA, the Learning Resource Center and the Society of Financial Services Professionals of Polk County. Jim’s company, Jim Lee Insurance, donated money to pay for college for more than a dozen students. Jim was also regular fixture at the Sun ‘n Fun Fly-in as a 10-year volunteer at the annual event.
Jim Lee was an alumnus of Florida Southern College, where he played on the Mocs basketball team. Upon graduating from Florida Southern College his passion for sports continued as he coached the Lake Wales High School and the Florida Southern Junior Varsity basketball teams and served on the board for Lakeland City baseball.
In the late 70s Jim’s passion for basketball and his alma mater led him to create the booster organization for Florida Southern’s Basketball Program, the Sixth Man Club, and serve as the president of the organization for more than six terms.
Jim was the past director and president of The Championship Committee which hosted Sunshine State Conference Championships in Men’s and Women’s Basketball, an NCAA Division II National Championship for Men’s Basketball and Florida High School Athletic Association championships held annually at The Lakeland Center.
