Baseball
In many areas of Florida, baseball is just a game or pastime. However, in
Central Florida's Polk County baseball is also an important year-round industry
featuring exciting action on all levels, all the way up to the Majors. Polk
County has some of the country's
finest baseball facilities and in a testament to the county being the baseball
capital, we host major league team Spring Training team Detroit Tigers
and in the past the Cleveland Indians.
The Tigers call Polk County home for two months every year. When the Major League teams go back up north for their seasons, the Lakeland
Flying Tigers, the Detroit Tigers Single-A affiliate occupies Joker Marchant Stadium for their Florida State League season. The county not only offers leagues of its own, but also is the venue for
tournaments featuring youth, amateur and semi-pro baseball with organizations
such as USSSA, and AAU. Polk County has a conglomeration of baseball facilities
which are used by some of the best baseball players in the world including the Chain O'Lakes Complex and Joker Marchant Stadium complex.
